VET Schools to Develop Business Plans

Initial vocational education and training
02.09.2022
The reconstruction of Ukraine will require qualified personnel, and vocational education institutions will play a leading role in their training. Having this in mind, the Swiss-Ukrainian Public-Private Partnership for the Improved Plumbing Education in Ukraine" (EdUP) Project conducted a five-day training for the management of VET schools – recipients of the Project.

As they say, a well-designed plan is a key to success. That is why the EdUP leadership training was focused on business planning in the context of vocational education institutions management. Afterward, the participants will continue their work in teams, to develop their own projects. Their progress will be supervised by certified trainers. In the end, the best teams will be awarded valuable prizes.

A total of 43 representatives of VET schools took part in the training, almost half of them - offline. Those people who preferred to be present online followed the course with a separate trainer. Therefore the event was held in a blended format to cover as many principals as possible.

In today's reality, a personal meeting becomes an outstanding event, so attendees enjoyed the opportunity to share news and their experience in dealing with the challenges of this difficult time.

In addition to the training on business planning, conducted by Develor Ukraine, our offline participants attended a master class on legal awareness. Roman Shpyrka, a practicing lawyer, shared pieces of advice on how to get prepared for court hearings and inspections by regulatory bodies.

The final stage of the meeting was a strategic session dedicated solely to the exchange of best practices. Eventually, participants drew the “twelve commandments of the leader” for their imaginary successors and discussed current pain points.

"We believe in the rapid recovery of the country and are already doing everything possible to speed up this process. Modern knowledge and skills are an invaluable resource that helps implement the most ambitious goals"
Sonja Loosli, EdUP Project Manager
"It was quite a challenge to organize an offline event during the war. We took all the precautions, found a venue with a shelter, and most importantly asked invitees whether they are ready to meet offline. And people arrived! Though for some of them the journey meant many hours of travel. You see, even in these circumstances, people wish to continue, as usual, meet in person, and work."
Yulia Epifanova, EdUP Project Expert

This training was the second of a series of events, the so-called Academy of Directors, aimed at improving the management and leadership skills of heads of vocational education institutions - recipients of the EdUP Project.

The development of business plans will last until the end of October 2022. This is when the winners will present the most elaborated business plans for their VET schools.
