Georgia

Georgia pursues an open market orientation and has implemented reforms that have boosted its standing in international business rankings.
The country is strategically aligned with the EU through an Accession Agreement signed in 2014. Nevertheless, Georgia continues to experience high unemployment, with 46% of employment being mostly self-employment in agriculture. Poverty, especially in rural areas, remains a pervasive challenge. Agriculture, tourism, and information technology are sectors with substantial growth potential.

Swisscontact in Georgia works with the rural small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs.

We currently implement activities to build a more effective and resilient system of SME access to finance and business support services to increase rural income and employment.  We employ a market systems development approach to partner with businesses and the public sector to make changes that sustainably benefit rural populations.

Swisscontact’s activities in Georgia are aligned with the Swiss Cooperation Office’s strategy in the South Caucasus which is oriented towards rural business diversification, resilience, income, and job creation.
